it’s come to my attention lately that the people i intrinsically want to surround myself with, and the people i’m drawn to are the people who ‘see’ me and allow their inner-greatness to be ‘seen’. it’s important that at the outset i make the disclaimer that this isn’t about accolades or public fame. it’s not about being at the forefront or needing the spotlight. it’s about looking into a person’s eyes and knowing that they SEE you. that they recognize your worth. that they trust in you. and are supporters of your story. it’s about the friends i’ve have since i was 11 who live in new zealand and champion my achievements and are also there for the tests and challenges. it’s about my parents who have always had an innate faith in me and whatever i set out to do and never given me limiting parameters. it’s about my partner whose eyes literally shine when he looks at me. it’s about the friends i have that are authentic communicators and live with a true (ever unfolding) sense of purpose infused with creativity and originality.
and landing in a city like LA where there is a fear that everyone is pandering to you for what ‘they’ can get out of it, i’ve become really good at brushing aside the token kisses on each cheek, and the handshakes with insincere altogether too white smiles, and really taking stock when a true connection is forged. i have an auto-filter, so to speak, that cuts off the excess and extraneous and allows in the people who are present and comfortable in their skin.
it also makes me impatient around haters and cynics. people who disparage others and their choices. people who need to cut others down in order to maintain some sense of self-worth. i’m also fed-up with the passive-aggressive copy cats and envy filled joy-squashers. sorry, but time is too precious. our hours on this earth too fleeting to give you a lot of the attention you’re so desperately craving.
i’m seeing SO much inner strength, courage and capacity in the people i interact with, that sometimes i’m blown away by the company i keep. and when others don’t SEE that light. all i want to do is ask them to take off their blinders and take another look.
so here’s a clarion call to you, the incredibles. you know who you are. thank you for seeing me. thank you for letting me in to see you.
in other news, rainbows are catching my eye. thread rainbows to be precise. these art installations by gabriel dawe are so beautiful.
