i love that it rained all day today and yesterday and the day before. i feel like LA becomes more of a ‘regular’ city when it rains. the rain dilutes some of the gloss and hype and just makes everything in this frenetic city more manageable and a bit quieter. even la’s inhabitants seem more beautiful as they scuttle around under umbrellas.
i also love the rain at night because it makes the pavement glitter under the street lights. and glittery anything is awesome.
shout out to my kindred sister ash who also revels in rain and all things that glitter.
i was catching up on postsecret and saw this one. it made my heart hurt a bit.
watched the banksy doco ‘ exit through the gift shop‘. adored it. fascinated by it. and inspired.
when nicole kidman named her daughter ‘sunday rose’ my mum was a bit concerned it sounded too much like ‘sunday roast’ (an australian traditional meal). this continues to make me smile.
i went to erewhon today which is like the disneyland of natural foods. it was my first visit. i was overwhelmed by it all. mostly by the incredible variety of dehydrated kale snacks on offer. the store is packed full of delicious and healthy food options and our visit was part of the preparation for the 3 day raw food extravaganza we’re starting tomorrow. unfortunately, because i have little restraint, i’ve already eaten through about half the supplies i purchased. the good news is that raw cheese is delicious once you get over the whole ‘raw’ thing.
sidenote: not sure why the idea that something like cheese being ‘raw’ disturbs me.
one day i plan on doing a whole series of photos based on puddles.

and this one which is an all-time favorite (that i don’t know where i found so i can’t credit – sorry.)
since we’re (sort of) on the topic of pavements, an awesome reader of my blog (hi lauren!) sent me a link to a BBC profile on ben wilson, an artist who creates miniature paintings on…wait for it…discarded chewing gum on london’s city streets. supposedly one time he nearly was arrested by the police for “criminal damage” but he defended his actions saying that the criminal damage already had taken place by the person who had spat out the gum on the pavement.
hooray for creative activists.
